Volunteers needed for TAG 69

John Vandenbemden

First let’s address the first part of what TAG is. TAG is the acronym for Technical Advisory Group which is a group of experts in a particular field. TAGs are actively involved in the creation of international standards. Their primary purpose is to develop and transmit the U.S. position on activities or draft standards of the appropriate ISO or IEC technical committees. In the United States, TAGs are accredited by ANSI and must follow ANSI procedures for ISO Activities.

TAG 69 develops the U.S. positions on international standardization activities of ISO/TC 69 on applications of statistical methods. The ISO published scope of TAG 69 is defined as “Standardization in the application of statistical methods, including generation, collection (planning and design), analysis, presentation, and interpretation of data. Valid statistical inferences can be drawn only from data that satisfies specific assumptions.”

Made To Measure Company

Development and revisions of the international standards are conducted using subcommittees. TAG 69 has the following subcommittees.

  • Terminology and symbols
  • Application of statistical methods in standardization
  • Statistical process control
  • Acceptance sampling
  • Measurement methods and results
  • Six Sigma

US TAG 69 is composed of volunteers who are referred to as delegates to conduct projects related to the subcommittees. Continue this work to keep these standards current and create new standards based on technological advances and user-defined needs. If you have knowledge, expertise, and willingness to share, come join us on US TAG 69. All you need to do is contact standards@asq.org to express your interest. If you have any questions, please contact me as the US TAG 69 Secretary or contact standards@asq.org.
