Smart Vision Lights (SVL) introduces the LHI-DO Lightgistics series light, which is available in 300 mm and 600 mm models designed to deliver intense linear light in high-speed scan tunnel systems. Equipped with Hidden Strobe technology, the light delivers the benefits of LED strobing while minimizing the disruption and disorientation associated with bright, pulsing lights.

Hidden Strobe technology enables LEDs to rapidly self-trigger thousands of times per second at rates imperceivable to the human eye — giving off an illusion of continuous illumination. The novel technology helps logistics companies maximize the capabilities of machine vision systems while protecting employees against the harmful and disorienting effects of continuous flashing lights.

Machine vision systems attempting to perform accurate high-speed barcode scanning or optical character recognition (OCR) on packages with reflective plastic wraps or shipping bags run into significant issues with glare. Polarizers can overcome the glare problem, but this comes at a cost, with reduced light output and decreased clarity. Lightigistics lights featuring Dual OverDrive™ technology are designed specifically to overcome these issues. Dual OverDrive™ technology combines SVL’s Deca OverDrive™ and standard OverDrive™ engines to deliver lighting that is 10 times brighter than standard continuous mode.

The LHI-DO’s OverDrive™–only light source can be used to create tunnel systems capable of illuminating any package — ensuring perfect readability no matter the shape or material. With an integrated camera mount compatible with most machine vision cameras, the light can be directly connected and controlled through a camera’s trigger output. With onboard charging capacitors, the LHI-DO delivers powerful bursts of energy with a low consistent electrical draw. The IP65-rated LHI-DO can be used at working distances between 500 mm and 2000 mm with 10-, 14-, and 30-degree lens options.

Suburban Tool Master-Edge Hybrid Straight Edge

Suburban Tool, Inc. announced the addition of an Aluminum Cast Iron Hybrid Straight Edge “Master-Edge Hybrid™” to complement their existing line of successful Aluminum and Cast-Iron Straight Edges.

The all-new Master-Edge Hybrid™ Aluminum Straight Edges will offer the same high precision, high quality as Suburban’s Cast Iron Straight Edge at approximately 50% of the weight, making it ideal for applications where the weight of a Cast Iron product might be prohibited.

These new Aluminum Straight Edges are comprised of a 319 Cast Aluminum body with G2 Gray Cast Iron wear strips bonded to the working faces making it lightweight yet very durable. The straight edges are precision ground to Suburban’s exacting standards.

Available in lengths of 18, 36, 48, 60, 72, 96 and 120 in.

Pleora RapidPIX Compression

Pleora Technologies is introducing RapidPIX™ lossless compression technology that increases data throughput by almost 70 percent while meeting the low latency and reliability demands of machine vision and medical imaging applications.

RapidPIX is initially available on Pleora’s new iPORT™ NTx-Mini-LC platform, which provides a compression-enabled drop-in upgrade of the widely deployed NTX-Mini embedded interface. With added compression, designers can deploy the iPORT NTx-Mini-LC to support low latency transmission of GigE Vision compliant packets at more than 1.5 Gbps throughput rates over existing 1 Gb Ethernet infrastructure. Manufacturers are designing the iPORT NTx-Mini-LC embedded interface with RapidPIX compression into X-ray panels for medical and dental imaging, contact image sensors (CIS), and industrial camera applications.

While boosting bandwidth performance without requiring a costly infrastructure upgrade, the lossless compression solution also minimizes the amount of data transmitted over the network to reduce power consumption. The mathematically lossless compression technology supports multi-taps and multi-components. Imaging data is fed into the RapidPIX encoder, which analyses imaging data against compression profiles and selects the best approach based on application requirements. Latency performance is less than two lines, or approximately 0.022 milliseconds, when deployed on a system operating at 1024x1024 resolution, Mono8 pixel format with two taps at 40 MHz. Latency performance can be further reduced depending on the number of taps and pixel format.

Pleora’s RapidPIX compression is now available on the iPORT NTX-Mini-LC embedded interface to support low latency transmission of GigE Vision compliant packets at more than 1.5 Gbps throughput rates over existing 1 Gbps infrastructure. To speed time-to-market, the iPORT NTx-Mini-LC with RapidPIX Development Kit helps manufacturers develop system or camera prototypes and proof-of-concepts easily and rapidly, often without undertaking hardware development.
